Wisdom from
yesterday, knowledge for today, dreams for tomorrow.
The above vision
statement for the Schertz Public Library was adopted in 2006
as a reminder that libraries have long held a special place
in the history of the world and are one of the cornerstones
of a free and open democracy. Libraries often provide our
first introduction to all the wonders and treasures to be
found in the world.
The Library is a
department of the City of Schertz and as such operates under
the ordinances and operating guidelines of the City. The
Library was established by City Council in 1978 in response
to a petition by a group of concerned citizens who decried
the lack of library services in the city and the western end
of Guadalupe County. In the 29 years since its inception,
the Library has grown from a tiny 1,500 square foot space to
the current building size of 30,000 square feet housing a
collection of more than 60,000 items.
It is our goal that the use of the Library and its services
will be a pleasant and enjoyable experience for you.
